Crayon Scratch Art

I've been looking at different art projects to do with Benjamin. I've decided I would like to try crayon scratch art with him. How many of you have done this with your children? It seems pretty simple to do and also fun!  The only thing is right now I have no black tempera paint, so that will have to be picked up at the craft store.
